The word symmetrical comes from the word symmetry which means balanced proportions especially in shapes, size, and relative positions, according to merian webster dictionary. Henceforth symmetrical design is design that is balanced and propotioned. This does not mean that both sides of the design have the exact same images or shapes, but may have the same size images, or size of varying shapes. By doing this the designing is creative a cohesive piece. This is just one of the many types of compositions that a graphic designer may use, there are even more kinds of symmetrical design like radial, horizontal, and vertical symmetrical design.
