What is Design? – Defined

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

More than just graphics

Design is the planning that lays the basis for the making of every object, system, idea or corporation.  Think about it design is all around us, you just don’t notice it. Your house was designed by architects, and then built by construction workers who used tools designed for building your house, then your parents designed how they wanted to inside to look with their belongings.  It is about how things go together, why they work and don’t work and the interminglings of everything you never thought of.  Graphic designers like we are here at TriLeaf pay attention to our design in a lot more places than just our work.  I like things designed to look certain ways.  My own personal designs are different than the designs I do for clients, because clients want a specific design or have an idea in mind. So design think about it is everything you do. Your schooling is designed, your schedule is designed by you, you in fact then are a designer of a sort.

Recycle Me – Paints

What do I do with my old paint?

Since people at work know that I am involved with Green Saint Louis and writing for TriLeaf’s blog, I am constantly getting questions about how to recycle this and what’s the best way to reuse that.  Just this past week I had two people ask me how to recycle or properly dispose of paint if recycling isn’t an option.  I did a little research and found 2 places so far.  St. Charles County Recycle Works is one location; they no longer accept latex paints, but they do still accept oil based paints.  The other location is Earthbound Recycling in Eureka; they only accept latex paints and they charge 15 cents per pound to dispose of the paint.  Do you know of anywhere that recycles paints or disposes of them?  Do you know of any program in St. Louis where people can trade paints so they can get used instead of thrown away?  Do you know of any organizations that need paint donations?

What are journals?

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Some people think of journals, as newspaper. Well, they can be but they can also be writing journals for poets, writers, novelist, diaries, and sketchbooks.  Graphic designs design the looks of these as well.  They may not always be designed by designers, but they are used for creative personalities. Thus having a graphic designer design them only make sense.

The main thing that a graphic designer has to keep in mind is the writing area.  Some people like tight lines, other like more space and even yet some like no lines at all.
