A Technological Tip on How to Save Energy
Having designed a few websites, I’ve come to realize that not a lot of people show love when presented with a design for a website with a black background, but the truth is, black=energy conservation. It takes more energy to power a website that is predominantly white/light colored.
So graphic/web designers, I challenge you to keep the environment in mind the next time you go to design a website. A clean and sophisticated design can still be accomplished with a darker background by simply keeping space in mind. Use it to your advantage by using colors that pop. Lines in composition are similar to direction
Lines in your composition help create direction for your imagery. They lead the eye and create linear perspective typically. This means that they create the illusion of depth in something that is otherwise 2d unless of course its a photo that the original work was 3d. Lines can be many ways, but most importantly they keep your eye focused on a point. I wouldn’t say this unless they aren’t used a lot. For instance an iconic photo is a railroad tracks, they are overly done in my opinion. Yet I still love even taking these pictures, I can’t help it. I try to get a new vantage point on them. I just like the linear perspective they create with the vanishing lines and repetition of the ties.

“Interactive media is the integration of digital media including combinations of electronic text, graphics, moving images, and sound, into a structured digital computerized environment that allows people to interact with the data for appropriate purposes. The digital environment can include the Internet, telecoms and interactive digital television.” according to an article called “Interactive Media- What’s that? Who’s Involved?
The internet is one huge interactive media. Some websites have more interactive media than others. Especially, all the game websites. Every game you play online is a sort of interactive media. When you open a website, if it has moving parts (animation) that is interactive media. These are typically made by a version of flash or animation software. You may even know interactive media by another name, because as the technology grows so does the field and the name changes along with it. You may now it by multi-media, new media, or a plethora of other terms but it all means the same thing.
Info taken from Interactive Media- What’s that? Who’s Involved?

Graphic designers are not the ones who actually program the websites, or at least not usually. They design the look, feel, and key things that combine to make a website. They are the “brains” I guess you could say behind the operation that makes the aesthetics They may decide what fonts, color schemes, or photographs to include on the website.
There are also things that are bad to design around:
If at all possible do not include pdf’s unless they are for the sole purpose of printing out. Make sure the programmers make the font size editable and scannable. Many times people especially, older people may have their computer settings set to increase the font size. If you do not allow this it makes it harder for them to read. This of course then deters them from your website.

Signs has many definitions according to google these are just two of the definitions of sign:
- a perceptible indication of something not immediately apparent (as a visible clue that something has happened); “he showed signs of strain”; “they welcomed the signs of spring”
- a public display of a message; “he posted signs in all the shop windows”
I pulled these two because the pertain to the graphic design side of what signs are all about. Signs are meant to show something not immediately apparant like a store sign for the street so drivers and passer bys can find you or a sign that shows a sale that is going on.
These types of signs are the signs that designers create. They need to catch attention, keep attention long enough to read the message, and entice the customer/person to take action.

Corporate reports are comprehensive information that describes the activities and overviews and organizaation.
This combined with research done by account executives or the graphic designer themselves gives the graphic designer information on the market. This type of technique is used more in the advertising business to learn about competition, think of tactics, learn about their target audience, and pitch and idea to a client. This extra information is especially important because it is what will differentiate that advertisement from others.

Some people think of journals, as newspaper. Well, they can be but they can also be writing journals for poets, writers, novelist, diaries, and sketchbooks. Graphic designs design the looks of these as well. They may not always be designed by designers, but they are used for creative personalities. Thus having a graphic designer design them only make sense.
The main thing that a graphic designer has to keep in mind is the writing area. Some people like tight lines, other like more space and even yet some like no lines at all.

Since we’ve been talking about compositions and layouts, I hope you realize the sheer complexity that comes with each layout and the many decisions that must be made along the way.
Here are just a number of types of publications that graphic designers would deal with along the way according to our job description:
