How do you feel about face scanning technology in ads?
Since I am in Advertising/Marketing I found this article very interesting and controversial. This video explains that advertising is becoming a little more personal than it is now. If you think seeing the same commercial over and over again is annoying you need to prepare yourself. The video says that a technology that would allow face scanning is finding its way into ads. Basically it works is, you look at an ad, the face scanning technology determines your age and gender and changes the ad to profile you and what someone of your age and gender would be interested in. When I saw this video, half of my brain said wow this is great! This is a more efficient way to advertise so you can better target your market and eliminate communicating with those individuals who are not interested in a particular ad. The other half of my brain says, wow that is creepy and evasive—I do not like the idea of looking at an ad knowing someone is looking back at my face. In fact, it reminds me of the book 1984 with “Big Brother” monitoring everyone and everything.
I would like to know how non-advertising people feel about this. Is it going too far or eliminating wasteful ad tactics?
